It's important to stay hydrated during virtual appearances. The computer screen and lights can dry out your vocal cords more quickly than in-person speaking. Try using a water glass instead of your usual water bottle for appearances. Sipping from a glass is quieter and less distracting than having to open your water bottle on camera. Keep the glass within easy arms reach, but at a safe distance from your computer or keyboard. When you need to take a sip, pause, pick up your glass, take the sip, put the glass back down, then continue your presentation- don't try to multi-task. And if you are on a panel with multiple participants, try to take your sip while another person is talking, and the audience is focused on them.
